When I hear Butchulla spoken it makes me feel vibrant, it makes me feel happy, it makes me want to sing and climb to the top of the mountain there, and sing, sing, sing. And not only that, I feel a spiritual connection. When I hear language I want to cry, I want to laugh, I want to sing, I want to dance. I feel that it’s part of me, part of my identity and I want to grab hold of it. I didn’t learn Butchulla when I was a young child but now as an adult I’m learning things I never knew existed.
