Language is a part of your identity, my identity. It gives my life meaning. It gives me connection to my country and to my ancestry. That's important to know because language is able to restate who you are because it comes from a particular group. For that to be revitalised, to be utilised in terms of conversation and connection with country is important, both for our future and for our past, to maintain that connection. I feel a sense of pride when I hear people speaking their language. They obviously believe in who they are, where they come from and understand what that language connection with their history is. So to speak that fluently means that those people value the gift of their history, their culture and their connection with country.
